There are hundreds of versions of poker played not only in private homes, but also in countless poker rooms in prestigious casinos. There is a lot of luck in poker, but the game also requires a very high level of skill, and each player is the master of his own destiny. We present to you today two big categories of play: scoring and betting.
The standard 52-card pack is used, and sometimes a joker or two is added. Poker is a single packet game, but today, in almost all games played in clubs and among the best players, two packs of contrasting colors are used in order to speed up the game. While one pack is dealt, the other pack is shuffled and prepared for the next deal.
In clubs, it is customary to change cards frequently and to allow any player to request a new card at any time. When new cards are introduced, both packs are replaced and the seal and cellophane wrapping on the new deck should be broken in full view of all players.
While there are countless forms of poker, players who understand the principles of card values and betting can play any type of poker game without difficulty. With the exception of a few versions of the game, a poker hand consists of five cards. The various combinations of poker hands are ranked from five pair (highest) to no pair or no pair (lowest).
Five of a Kind- This is the highest possible hand and is only found in games where at least one card is a hundred, such as the joker, two one-eyed Jacks, or four draws. Examples of five of a kind are four tens and a wild card or two queens and three wild cards.
Flush - This is the highest card that can occur when using only the standard pack and no wild cards. A flush consists of five cards of the same suit in sequence, such as the 10, 9, 8, 7, and 6 of Hearts.
Four of a Kind - This is the second highest hand, and it ranks slightly below the flush. An example would be four aces or four threes. it doesn't matter what the unbeatable fifth card is.
Three Card - This combination contains three cards of the same rank and two other cards of different rank each, such as three Jacks, a seven and a four.
No Pairs - This very common hand has "nothing". When more than one player has no pair, hands are scored according to the highest card contained in each hand, so an Ace high beats a K high, and so on.
Betting is the key to poker, as the game is essentially a chip management game.
During the course of each poker deal, there is one or more betting intervals where players have the opportunity to bet on their hands. Minimizing losses with bad hands and maximizing wins with good hands is a fundamental skill needed in poker.
Each betting interval or round begins when a player bets one or more chips in turn. In turn, each player on the left must either "call" the bet by putting the same number of chips into the pot; or "raise," which means that the player has put in enough chips to call the bet; or "fold " ("fold"), which means that the player does not put chips into the pot, discards the hand, and withdraws from the bet before the next deal.
When a player drops, they lose all of the chips they put into that bottom pool. Unless the player is willing to put in at least as many chips as the previous player, they must drop out.
If a player bets or raises and the other players don't call, they win the pot without having to show up. So, in poker, there is an element of bluffing and the best combination of hands doesn't always win the pot! Bluffing is one of the main reasons why poker is so popular.
In each betting round, one player is designated as the first bettor according to the rules of the game. The betting round always moves to the left, from one player to another, and no one can pass, bet, or even fold unless it is their turn.
